INTRODUCTION

Programme for Rehabilitation in Community (PDK) I am Healthy (PDK Ku Sihat) at the Rehabilitation in Community (PDK) Centre was officiated by the Honorary Prime Minister and his wife on 23rd June, 2012 at Pulau Carey, Selangor. This programme is an initiative of the Welfare Association of Wives (Bakti) in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Ministry of Health, Malaysia. The program is one of the initiatives of the National Blue Ocean Strategy- NBOS under the 1Malaysia Family Care .

Healthy nutritional practices and food intake according to daily needs ensures optimal health. Deficient or excess nutrients will be the factor to cause the risk of nutrition related diseases. Accordingly, the implementation of the programme for Rehabilitation in Community (PDK I am Healthy (PDK Ku Sihat) will give space to PDK supervisors and workers to cultivate a healthy lifestyle and educate trainees in PDK to practise healthy nutrition so as to become more active and alert through consistent physical activity.

As of December 2012, there were 447 units of PDK throughout Malaysia with a total of 17.961 trainees at PDK. Get Directory Listing of PDK according to States here.

OBJECTIVE

  • Encourage Rehabilitation in Community ( PDK) trainees to practise healthy nutrition and physical activities consistently
  • Reduce malnutrition problem (excessive and malnutrition) among trainees in PDK.

ACTIVITIES HELD

  • Assessment of nutritional status using anthropometric measurements
  • Provide nutritional consultation with parents/guardians of trainees.
  • Give lectures on healthy nutrition to trainees, parents/ guardians
  • Hold cooking demonstration of healthy meals to parents/ guardians
  • Hold Healthy Supermarket Adventure among trainees and parents/guardians
  • Hold Healthy Catering training for PDK officers.
