HEALTHY MEAL PRESENTATION DURING MEETINGS

INTRODUCTION

The implementation of Healthy Meal Presentation during Meetings (PHSSM) was first launched formally at the Headquarters of the Ministry of Health Malaysia starting February 2, 2011. The Circular of the Director General of Health: Guide to implementation of Healthy Meal Presentation during Meetings at Ministry of Health Facility Bil. 3/2012 on the implementation of PHSSM in all facilities of Ministry of Health, Malaysia was issued on 27 January 2012.

This implementation also extended to 24 other ministries in the public sector through the circular of the Director General of Public Services (DGPS) dated 3rd February 2012. Following that, an introductory briefing on the implementation of the Healthy Meal Presentation during Meetings (PHSSM) in the public sector was held on 7th December, 2011 at the Multipurpose Hall, Ministry of Education. A total of 99 participants from 20 ministries and 13 institutions of the Ministry of Health attended the briefing.

This briefing is targeted at civil servants who are directly involved or responsible for the booking and catering of food for meetings and official functions as well as at caterers catering meals for meetings and official functions organized by the Ministry of Health facilities and agencies in the public sector.

OBJECTIVE
  • To promote healthy eating practices and provide healthier food options to members of the meeting.

ACTIVITIES

Appointment of Ministry Coordinator

  • Ministry Coordinator is appointed at its own Ministry Level. The role of the Ministry Coordinator is :
  • Identify Division Coordinator (divisional representative at respective ministries) who will implement Healthy Meal Presentation during Meetings (PHSSM) at each division.
  • Hold Healthy Catering and Guide to Healthy Meal Presentation during Meetings’ talks at respective Ministries
  • Ensure food served during meetings are labelled with calorific value of food
  • Monitor meals served during meetings

Labeling Calories ( Calorie Tagging )

Food and drinks served during meetings must be labelled with information on the calories’ content of the food. Information on food calories can be obtained from the Booklet on Guide to Healthy Meal Presentation during Meetings and Booklet on Guide to Calorific Value of 200 Types of food that were already distributed to each Division Coordinator. However, Nutrition Division provides advisory services if the Ministry needs assistance with Healthy Meal Presentation during Meetings (PHSSM).
