INTRODUCTION

Practicing healthy eating is one very important element in shaping a healthy society and can contribute to national productivity. The Ministry of Health has carried out various nutrition promotional activities aimed at educating the public in practicing healthy eating habits.

However, the lifestyle of modern society has caused the promotion of healthy eating increasingly challenging and requires various strategies and approaches for improving its effectiveness. Time factor and the work have been encouraging the public to buy food outside, whether in food outlets, stalls or restaurants.
Lack of food premises that offer healthy, clean and safe food is one of the factors that prevent people to practise healthy eating. As a result, the establishment of a Healthy Cafeteria is one of the strategies that can help provide an environment to support and encourage the public in carrying out healthy eating habits. Food premises’ operators who are interested can send the Application Form for Recognition of Healthy Cafeteria (KS/1KKM)to the State Health Department /nearest Federal Territory office (attention to: State Science Officer (Nutrition).

OBJECTIVE

General Objective:

  • To improve the quality of food and healthy nutritional promotion in food premises through a Healthy Cafeteria evaluation system.

Special Objective:

  • To improve knowledge and skills of cafeteria operators in the provision of healthy and safe food.
  • To ensure the preparation of nutritious foods is based on the Malaysian Dietary Guidelines and Recommended Nutrient Intake (RNI).
  • To ensure the preparation of food, in the long run, is based on Food Hygiene Regulations 2009
  • To improve the availability of safe and healthy food choices to the public.
  • To give recognition to food premises that meet the criteria of Healthy Cafeteria
  • To encourage cooperation between Ministry of Health and food premises’ operators in promoting safe and healthy food.
